Professional Ant Control — Eliminating Colonies, Not Just the Workers You See

Ants are one of the most common pest complaints in UAE homes and businesses — and one of the most persistently underestimated. What appears as a trail of workers crossing a kitchen counter is almost always the visible surface of a much larger colony nesting deep inside walls, under flooring, in soil close to the building, or within outdoor garden structures. The UAE is home to several problematic ant species, including sugar ants, ghost ants, fire ants, and carpenter ants — each with different nesting behaviour, food preferences, and treatment requirements.
Surface sprays kill only the foraging workers you can see — they have no effect on the queen or the thousands of colony members hidden below. For true and lasting ant elimination, the treatment must reach the colony itself. Verdex Hygiene Services uses targeted gel bait technology that works by a completely different mechanism: foraging workers consume the bait and carry it back to the nest, where it is shared throughout the colony — including the queen. The result is complete colony elimination within days, not just a temporary reduction in visible ant numbers.

Frequently asked questions

Answers to the questions our UAE customers ask most about ant problems and professional ant treatment.

01

Why do ants keep returning after I spray them?
Spraying worker ants does not affect the colony. Worker ants represent only a small fraction of the total colony — the queen and the vast majority of the population remain deep in the nest, completely unaffected by surface sprays. For lasting control, the treatment needs to reach the queen, which is exactly what gel bait is designed to achieve. Workers carry the bait back to the nest and share it, eventually eliminating the colony from within.
Yes. Gel baits are applied in tiny, precise amounts directly into cracks and crevices, well away from food surfaces and food contact areas. They are specifically formulated and approved for use in food-handling environments, including UAE restaurants and commercial kitchens. There is no need to evacuate the premises or remove food items during gel bait application.
The most frequently encountered species in UAE homes are ghost ants and sugar ants — both attracted to sweet and greasy food sources and both difficult to control with conventional sprays. Pharaoh ants are also common, particularly in multi-storey residential buildings. Fire ants are a concern in gardens and landscaped areas, while carpenter ants may occasionally be found in timber-rich or older structures, where they pose a structural risk.
Most gel bait treatments show a significant and visible reduction in ant activity within three to five days as worker ants consume the bait and distribute it through the colony. Complete colony elimination typically occurs within one to two weeks. A follow-up visit is recommended two to three weeks after the initial treatment to assess results and replenish bait if required — this visit is included as standard in our ant control programme.
